In a demonstration of ongoing commitment to community development, Barrick Gold, in partnership with Nos Vies en Partage (NVeP), has donated a total of 20,000 US dollars (over 51 million Tanzanian shillings) to address education and health challenges in underserved communities.
The donation, presented by Barrick Gold Country Manager Melkiory Ngido, reflects NVeP's quarterly efforts to provide direct and impactful assistance to communities in need across Tanzania.
"We are proud to support over 15 organizations in the country through NVeP, and we are pleased to allocate 10,000 US dollars each to Mwangaza OMCW in Dar es Salaam and the Martha Onesmo Public Library," stated Melkiory Ngido.
The funding, disbursed by NVeP—an institution established and funded by Barrick Gold Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Bristow—aims to aid special groups such as women, children, and those not benefiting from Africa’s economic growth.
Mwangaza OMCW Tanzania, based in Dar es Salaam, is a non-governmental organization focused on empowering mothers and children through health, economic, education, and family support initiatives. The Martha Onesmo Public Library, situated in the Msangeni area of Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region, was launched earlier this year to serve the local community.
Expressing gratitude for the donation, Jennifer Dickson, the founder of Martha Onesmo Public Library, emphasized the impact on service enhancement and modernization to keep pace with advancements in science and technology.
Marshalo Chikoleka, Chairperson of Mwangaza OMCW, also conveyed appreciation to NVeP, highlighting the potential to improve maternal and child health services through nutrition education and women's economic empowerment.
The collaborative efforts between Barrick Gold and NVeP underscore a shared commitment to uplifting communities and addressing critical needs in education and healthcare across Tanzania.
