Bolt Adjusts Transportation Prices in Africa to Mitigate Macroeconomic Impact

Bolt, the prominent ride-hailing service in Africa, has announced an increase in transportation fares as a response to the challenges posed by macroeconomic factors impacting the transport industry. The adjustment involves a 5 percent increase in fare prices in Dar es Salaam, with over 10 percent increases implemented in other cities to address the economic challenges faced by the sector.

Munira Ruhwanya, Bolt Operations Manager, explained the decision in a statement, stating, "In response to the increased macroeconomic challenges, we have recalibrated our pricing." Ruhwanya emphasized that the modification is aimed at ensuring optimal earnings for drivers using the Bolt platform while maintaining the service as a preferred and cost-effective choice for customers.

The revised pricing applies to various categories in Dar es Salaam, including Bodaboda, Bajaji, Car, and Bolt Corporate. Additionally, per-kilometer pricing has seen an adjustment. The impact of these changes will also extend to other cities, including Dodoma, Mwanza, and Arusha.

Highlighting Bolt's commitment to driver welfare, Ruhwanya mentioned the recent launch of the Bolt Driver Engagement Centre in Dar es Salaam. This initiative aims to strengthen relations with drivers and address their concerns effectively.

"Bolt recognizes the pivotal role of drivers on its platform and remains committed to improving their earnings, stimulating demand, and enhancing their overall service experience," Ruhwanya affirmed. The adjustment in pricing aligns with Bolt's broader strategy to ensure the sustainability of its platform while prioritizing the well-being of both drivers and passengers.

As Bolt continues to navigate the evolving economic landscape, the company remains focused on providing reliable and affordable transportation solutions, contributing to the convenience of commuters in various cities across Africa.
