Deputy Prime Minister Launches Electric Vehicles to Boost Clean Energy Use in Tanzania

In a significant move to promote clean energy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, launched electric vehicles on Friday, marking a major step in the country’s broader clean energy initiative.

Alongside the launch, Dr. Biteko inaugurated the solar energy center and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) offices in Dodoma, the capital city. He commended the UNDP for its support in government initiatives aimed at promoting clean energy usage. "The government is doing everything in its power to ensure there is an alternative clean energy source available to the majority of Tanzanians," Dr. Biteko emphasized.

Expressing gratitude to the European Union and UNDP, Dr. Biteko highlighted the government's efforts to make affordable clean energy accessible to most Tanzanians. "I would like to express the government’s gratitude to the European Union and UNDP for their support. The government is working hard to find affordable alternative clean energy sources for the majority of Tanzanians," he stated.

He urged all stakeholders to collaborate in achieving the goal of 80% of Tanzanians using clean energy by 2034.

UNDP representative Weyinmi Omanuli praised the Tanzanian government for its leadership and commitment to improving people's lives through clean energy strategies. "I would like to commend the Tanzanian government for its good leadership that focuses on improving people’s lives in both social and economic aspects," she remarked. Omanuli also noted that promoting clean energy underscores the government's dedication to supporting low-income Tanzanians.

European Union representative Cedric Marel expressed confidence in the Tanzanian government’s commitment to bringing positive changes through various projects, including those promoting clean energy. "The European Union is confident that the Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Energy, is committed to bringing positive changes to its citizens by implementing various projects, including promoting the use of clean energy," Marel stated.

Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule lauded the launch of electric vehicles as a testament to the government's dedication to clean energy. "This is a continuation of the campaign to promote the use of clean energy, led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan," she said.

The initiatives underscore Tanzania's commitment to transitioning towards clean energy, aiming for sustainable development and environmental preservation.
