In response to the recent disasters caused by floods and landslides in Hanang District, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Company (EACOP) has donated 1,000 bags of cement as assistance to the affected communities.
The cement donation aims to aid in the construction of over 101 houses that the government plans to build for the victims of these unprecedented disasters.
Manyara Regional Commissioner, Ms. Queen Sendiga, expressed gratitude, saying, "The recent disasters in Hanang District have left our communities in great need. The humanitarian generosity of the EACOP comes as a beacon of hope during these challenging times. We appreciate their response and support in helping our rebuilding efforts and restoring normalcy to the lives of the affected communities."
Significant landslides, particularly on the steep slopes of Mount Hanang, have affected areas in the towns of Katesh and Gendabi. EACOP acknowledges its responsibility to stand in solidarity with the communities impacted by this disaster, especially considering that Hanang District is one of the areas through which our pipeline passes.
Catherine Mbatia, the Communications Head of the EACOP Tanzania Branch, stated, "Our humanitarian aid contribution is a clear testament to our commitment to assisting those in need, emphasizing the company's responsibility to the communities."
These disasters have claimed lives, caused extensive damage to farmlands, and led to the displacement of thousands of people. In response to these calamities, EACOP has contributed 1,000 bags of cement to provide essential support to flood victims in Hanang District.
