EWURA announces significant fuel price drops for April 2023

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced new fuel cap prices for April 2023. Retail prices for petrol and diesel imported through the Dar es Salaam port have dropped by TZS 187/litre and TZS 284/litre, respectively.

The retail price of kerosene imported through the same port has also decreased by TZS 169/litre compared to prices published on March 1, 2023. In the Northern regions of Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Manyara, the retail prices of petrol and diesel have decreased by TZS 158/litre and TZS 231/litre, respectively, compared to March 1, 2023 prices.

In the Southern regions of Mtwara, Lindi, and Ruvuma, the retail prices of petrol and diesel have decreased by TZS 220/litre and TZS 176/litre, respectively, compared to March 1, 2023 prices. These new retail and wholesale prices are effective from April 5, 2023. Petrol Station Operators in the Northern and Southern regions are advised to source kerosene from Dar es Salaam due to depletion and unavailability of the product, respectively.

Due to the drop in prices of the fuel, petroleum and diesel will be sold at 2,781/- and 2,847/- per litre respectively.

“Due to the unavailability of kerosene at Mtwara storage terminals, Petrol Station Operators in the Southern regions are advised to source kerosene from Dar es Salaam. Therefore, the retail prices of kerosene for those regions are based on the cost of the product received through Dar es Salaam port and the transport cost to the respective regions,” the regulator advises.

EWURA encourages competition in the sector and provides information on petroleum product pricing to enable stakeholders to make informed decisions.
