Effective from Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has unveiled new price caps for petrol products across the country. This announcement, made by Dr. Selemani Jafo, the Minister of State in the Vice President's Office responsible for Union and Environment, underscores efforts to regulate fuel prices in specific regions.
The reduction in fuel prices for February 2024 is primarily attributed to the decline in Fuel Oil Prices (FOB) in the global market. The average weighted percentage decrease stands at 10.66 for petrol, 11.20 for diesel, and 5.82 for kerosene. Moreover, import costs at the Port of Dar es Salaam have seen a notable decrease, contributing to the overall reduction in fuel prices nationwide.
Additionally, the decrease in fuel prices is due to the reduction in import costs at the Port of Dar es Salaam by an average weighted percentage of 9.69 for diesel and 1.82 for kerosene. Similarly, the import costs of petrol and diesel at the Ports of Tanga and Mtwara have decreased by an average weighted percentage of 0.69 and 11.93, respectively.
