Ewura Releases New Fuel Cap Price as Petrol and Diesel Rise by in Dar es salaam

Retail prices for petrol and diesel imported through Dar es Salaam port have risen by Sh90 and Sh24 per litre, respectively, as per the latest fuel cap price released by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura), effective from May 3, 2023.

Motorists in Dar es Salaam will now pay Sh2,871 per litre for petrol, up from Sh2,781 in the previous month, and Sh2,847 for diesel, compared to Sh2,871 previously. However, in the northern regions of Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Manyara, petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged at Sh2,756 and Sh2,900, respectively, since retail prices in these regions are based on the cost of the product received through Dar es Salaam port and transport costs.

Similarly, fuel prices for petrol and diesel imported through the Mtwara port, which serves southern regions (Mtwara, Lindi and Ruvuma), will remain unchanged from April as there were no new imports received.

The highest selling point for fuel is Kyerwa district in Kagera region, where petrol and diesel are sold for Sh3,109 per litre. According to Ewura, these price changes are due to fluctuations in the global oil market, transportation costs (BPS Premium), and the value of the shilling relative to the US dollar.

The government removed the fuel subsidy that was previously lowering fuel inflation, resulting in the new prices
