Fuel Prices Fluctuate: Petrol Up, Diesel Down

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) announced changes in fuel prices on Wednesday, revealing an increase in petrol costs but a slight decrease in diesel prices for consignments delivered across the country.

In Dar es Salaam, petrol prices surged by 57/- per litre, reaching 3,314/- compared to last month's 3,257/-. Conversely, diesel prices saw a decline of 14/- per litre, dropping to 3,196/- from April's 3,210/-. Meanwhile, kerosene prices remained stable at 2,840/- per litre in the city.

In the Tanga Region, petrol prices climbed to 3,360/- per litre, up from 3,303/- in April, while diesel prices decreased to 3,242/- per litre from last month's 3,256/-. Kerosene prices remained unchanged at 2,886/-.

EWURA attributed these price changes to a 3.90% increase in world oil prices for petrol and a 1.31% decrease for diesel. Additionally, decreased premiums for importing petroleum products, particularly at Dar es Salaam Port, influenced the price adjustments.

"The changes in petroleum prices are attributed to the change in the exchange rate and the continuous use of the EURO for the payment of imported petroleum products," stated the authority.

Kyerwa District in Kagera Region reported the highest fuel prices, with petrol prices rising to 3,551/- per litre from last month's 3,495/-. However, diesel prices decreased to 3,420/- per litre from April's 3,448/-.

According to EWURA statistics, Kyerwa District faces the highest fuel prices, with consumers needing 10,000/- to purchase only about two and a half litres of petrol
