Innovative Palm Oil Processing Plant Creates Over 300 Jobs

In a groundbreaking development, over 300 jobs have been generated following the introduction of an innovative processing plant aimed at enhancing the value of palm oil in the Dar es Salaam Region. The visionary behind the plant, Mr. George Buchafwe, recently shared this accomplishment during a visit by journalists and the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) team to the facility in Vingunguti, Dar es Salaam.

COSTECH played a crucial role by providing Mr. Buchafwe with approximately 32 million Tanzanian Shillings to design the plant, simplifying the palm oil processing system. The plant, equipped with the capacity to process 1,400 liters per day of nutritional oil, body lotion oil, washing, and bath soaps, has significantly contributed to employment opportunities for over 300 Tanzanians, including 48 permanent positions.

Speaking about the plant's operations, Mr. Buchafwe highlighted the various activities undertaken to add value to palm oil, such as processing yellow and red palm oil, both rich in essential vitamins A, D, E, and K. The facility also produces laundry and bath soaps.

Notably, a similar plant has been established in Mkuranga District, Coastal region, catering to over 150 palm tree farmers who receive essential processing services. Local resident and palm tree farmer, Ms. Mwanaisha Hassan, expressed gratitude for the plant's presence, noting its positive impact on farming awareness and reviving interest in the cultivation of palm trees.

Dr. Philbert Luhunga, the Information and Publications Preservation Manager at COSTECH, emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to showcase how government funding, channeled through the commission, has yielded positive results for the community. The collaboration between COSTECH and Mr. Buchafwe exemplifies the impactful outcomes that can emerge from strategic investments in innovative initiatives, fostering economic growth and employment opportunities.
