KCB and GIZ Launch Initiative to Empower Tanzanian Youth

KCB Bank, with a rich history dating back to July 1896 and its predecessor, the National Bank of India (NBI), has expanded significantly since incorporating in Dar es Salaam in 1997. The bank has established 11 additional branches in Tanzania and attracted funding through programs such as 2jiajiri. Recently, KCB Bank Tanzania partnered with the German Development Agency (GIZ) to launch a 846,000 Euro (approximately Tsh 2.2 billion) initiative aimed at improving employability and income generation for 960 Tanzanian youth in the construction sector.

The targeted group will receive technical and vocational training as well as construction toolkits, enabling them to start their own businesses. The 50/50 partnership is part of the Employment and Skills for Development in Africa (E4D) program, a joint effort between GIZ and KCB Foundation through KCB's 2jiajiri Programme. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa praised the partnership, highlighting its potential to contribute to Tanzania's national development plans, including Vision 2025, which aims to build a competitive industrial economy for human development. KCB Group CEO, Mr. Paul Russo, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, recognizing the vital role of youth in economic transformation and the importance of the construction sector in driving Tanzania's growth. GIZ Country Director, Dr. Mike Falke, was also pleased with the partnership, emphasizing its alignment with government priorities to address skill gaps and promote employment. KCB Bank Tanzania board chairman, Mr. John Ulanga, stressed the bank's commitment to sustainable communities by providing solutions to Tanzanians' problems and ensuring long-lasting impact. KCB Managing Director, Mr. Cosmas Kimario, announced plans to enroll more youth this year, expanding opportunities for many Tanzanians. "This year, KCB Foundation will enroll another 5,000 youth in Tanzania. This is the largest enrollment we have ever done. We believe that this initiative will create more opportunities and ultimately ensure a greater impact on many Tanzanians," he said.
