Korean Government Vows Enhanced Support for Tanzania's Statistical Systems

In a resounding commitment to bolster Tanzania's statistical infrastructure, the Republic of Korea has pledged further assistance to fortify the country's data systems. Dr. Kim Sun Pyo, the Korean Ambassador to Tanzania, reaffirmed this promise during the launch of TASIS (Tanzania Statistics Integrated System) held in Dodoma. Dr. Kim emphasized the collaborative efforts between Korea and Tanzania in establishing the database, stressing the potential extension of these initiatives to other nations. He underlined the crucial need for enhanced cooperation to ensure broader utilization of data among Tanzanians.

"Statistics wield immense power, serving as the bedrock of knowledge crucial for Tanzania's progress," stated Dr. Kim, highlighting the significance of statistical integration, particularly in a swiftly evolving nation like Tanzania. Addressing the linguistic barrier in accessing statistical data, Dr. Kim indicated Korea's willingness to aid in translating the TASIS into Swahili. Acknowledging that a substantial portion of Tanzania's populace is more conversant in Swahili than English, he affirmed Korea's support in this essential endeavor.

The ambassador reiterated Korea's expertise in data interpretation and capacity building, citing past collaborations where Tanzanian statisticians visited Korea to enhance their skills. Dr. Albina Chuwa, the Chief Statistician, commended the Korean government's support, asserting that reinforcing a nation's statistical framework directly fuels its development. She lauded the TASIS as a foundational system empowering governments, organizations, and citizens with accurate and comprehensive data for informed decision-making and policy formulation.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of integrated databases, Dr. Chuwa highlighted their significance in guiding investments, fostering innovation, and ultimately improving citizens' lives. She stressed the ethical responsibility that accompanies the power of data, urging its conscientious and ethical use. Ms. Ruth Minja, the Acting Director for Population Census and Social Statistics at NBS (National Bureau of Statistics), expressed gratitude to the Korean government for their unwavering technical support and guidance. She underscored the relevance of this partnership, particularly in the current landscape where real-time data plays a crucial role in expediting national development initiatives.

As Tanzania strides toward accelerated development programs, the collaborative efforts between Korea and Tanzania stand as a testament to the profound impact of shared expertise and support in fortifying the country's statistical prowess.
