Updated: Aug 24, 2023

NMB Bank has launched an ambitious campaign to educate approximately 10,000 teachers across six regions, while also offering them a tailor-made banking package. The bank, recognized as one of the country's largest, aims to reach teachers in Rukwa, Katavi, Mbeya, Songwe, Njombe, and Iringa through a campaign dubbed 'Mwalimu Spesho,' which translates to 'Teacher's Special.'

The 'Mwalimu Spesho' campaign has already made significant headway, having engaged teachers in Mbeya, Songwe, Njombe, and Iringa. Recently, the campaign met with 250 teachers in Sumbawanga, Rukwa, providing valuable insights and information.

During the teachers' meeting, Mr. Ally Ngingite, the Head of Personal Banking at NMB, elaborated on the comprehensive 'Mwalimu Spesho' package. This tailored offering includes various services, such as low-interest loans, financial education, and an educational package for children. It also encompasses microloans, credit facilities for house construction, and loans specifically designed for acquiring vehicles, including motorcycles and three-wheelers.

Mr. Ngingite expressed confidence that the participating teachers would share the knowledge acquired about NMB's services with their colleagues, families, and the broader community, amplifying the benefits of the program.

Furthermore, Mr. Ngingite highlighted NMB's commitment to digital transformation and financial inclusion. With around 20 million Tanzanians lacking bank accounts but having access to mobile phones, NMB has capitalized on digital technologies to integrate more individuals into the formal financial system. Impressively, 94 percent of NMB's transactions are now conducted via mobile phones, reflecting the success of recent digital financial services introduced by the bank.

The 'Mwalimu Spesho' package also includes perks such as Insurance Premium Finance (IPF), covering both life and property. Additionally, teachers can access financing for farming inputs and machinery, participate in promotional activities, and gain financial education, among other benefits.Emphasizing the significance of the teachers' conference, Mr. Straton Chilongola, NMB Highlands Zone Manager, highlighted its role in facilitating knowledge exchange between the bank and its educator clientele. This platform allows for discussions on various subjects and provides valuable feedback for service improvement.

Mr. Chilongola reiterated NMB's commitment to enhancing the well-being of teachers across the country, underlining, "NMB is dedicated to improving the overall welfare of teachers nationwide."Mr. Sixtus Mapunda, the Sumbawanga District Commissioner, praised NMB for its efforts in serving educators. He acknowledged the bank's leadership in innovating savings and lending products catering to diverse market segments, including teachers and the wider society.
