NMB Expands International Market by Listing on London Stock Exchange

In a groundbreaking move, NMB Bank has widened its participation in international capital markets by listing the NMB Community Bonds on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). This makes NMB the first institution in Tanzania to have bonds listed on the LSE and the first bank in East Africa to list Sustainability Bonds on the London Stock Exchange.

The NMB Community Bonds aim to stimulate investment in socially and environmentally impactful projects, with a $73 million issuance listed for investors on the London Stock Exchange. The launch coincided with the opening activities of the London Stock Exchange this week and was attended by Tanzania's Ambassador to the UK, Mbelwa Kairuki, NMB Bank's CEO, Ruth Zaipuna, NMB Bank's Treasurer, Aziz Chacha, CEO of the London Stock Exchange, Julia Hoggetts, and other senior leaders from the UK government and various institutions.

"We started by listing these bonds on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange last year, followed by the Luxembourg market last month, and now we are listing them here on the London Stock Exchange to provide sustainable investors with the opportunity to contribute to change while enjoying good returns on their investments. These remarkable achievements demonstrate the confidence that Tanzanian and international investors have in the stability of NMB Bank and its commitment to sustainability in its operations, business, community, and environmental matters," explained Ruth Zaipuna.

Ruth Zaipuna, CEO of NMB Bank, highlighted that international markets enable NMB Bank to have a broad access to funds for financing projects that help improve the environment, transform communities, and create a better future for all people.
