Tanzania and Türkiye Strengthen Ties with New Agreements

Tanzania has affirmed its dedication to nurturing a mutually beneficial partnership with Türkiye, as President Samia Suluhu Hassan emphasized during a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the State House in Ankara on Thursday.

The two leaders oversaw the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing collaboration in higher education, economic ventures, and cultural exchange.

President Samia directed ministers and their teams to develop strategies for implementing these agreements. "Türkiye has been a valued partner for Tanzania; my visit underscores my commitment to this relationship," she noted.

Highlighting the existing ties, President Samia credited Turkish expertise with contributing to flagship projects like the standard gauge railway (SGR), which links Tanzania to neighboring nations.

To boost trade and investment, she announced plans to engage the Turkish private sector, focusing on manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism. "We welcome Turkish investors and businesses," she emphasized.

During their discussions, the leaders addressed global concerns, including the conflict in Palestine. "We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities," President Samia stated.

President Erdoğan echoed the sentiment, expressing a desire to boost trade volume between the countries to USD 1 billion and reaffirming their commitment to combating injustice globally.
