Tanzania Red Cross Society Introduces E-Membership Cards with Insurance and Banking Features

In a move to modernize its membership system and enhance support for its members, the Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS) unveiled new electronic membership cards during a ceremony held in Dodoma over the weekend. The launch, graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Dr. Doto Biteko and supported by the National Bank of Commerce (NBC), marks a significant milestone for both organizations.

Dr. Biteko commended the initiative, highlighting NBC's commitment to financial inclusion and its partnership with the government in addressing citizens' challenges. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between financial institutions and the government to implement projects aimed at empowering citizens and resolving key issues such as water infrastructure development.

The introduction of the electronic membership cards coincided with the celebration of TRCS's 62nd anniversary and was accompanied by exhibitions showcasing the society's humanitarian efforts. TRCS President David Kihenzile highlighted the organization's extensive reach, with 1,600 branches nationwide and over 1 million members, including those in refugee camps like Nyarugusu, Nduta, and Mtendeli.

Miraji Msuya, NBC Central Zone Manager, underscored the shared commitment between NBC and TRCS towards volunteerism and community support. He explained that the collaboration facilitated the development of the electronic membership cards, which not only serve as TRCS membership cards but also enable members to conduct banking transactions seamlessly.

Mr. Msuya outlined the benefits of the electronic membership cards, including access to health insurance services, compensation in case of disability, and financial assistance for members' families in the event of their demise. Additionally, the cards allow members to pay their membership fees, make various payments such as television subscriptions, and even purchase tickets for NBC Premier League matches.

The introduction of these cards represents a significant step forward in leveraging technology to provide comprehensive support and services to TRCS members, further solidifying the organization's commitment to humanitarian efforts and community welfare.
