TANZANIA TO INTRODUCE FIRST GREEN BOND

The Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA) in Tanzania in collaboration with the European Union (EU) under the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX) for International Partnership (INTPA) are developing a framework for the issuance, regulation and supervision of green bonds in the country.



The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CMSA, Mr. Nicodemus Mkama said that the issuance of green bonds will be an important step in building sustainable financial markets for sustainable economic development and growth, further commenting on the workshop organized, he thanked the Head of European Union delegation to Tanzania and other members of the delegation including Ms. Karina Dzialowska and Ms. Mihaela Marcu for their tireless cooperation and support that has led to making the workshop successful.

In addition, the 10-year Financial Sector Development Master Plan III (FSDMP) has identified the issuance of thematic financial products including Green bonds as among alternative financial strategies for supporting the implementation of projects in the Public Sector.


The workshop was a success and many stakeholders were included and thanked CMSA for collaborating with the EU in preparing the workshop as the workshop proved to be very insightful and helpful.
