The East Africa Commercial and Logistics Centre (EACLC) Tanzania set to create 92,770 jobs

The Prime Minister of Tanzania, Kassim Majaliwa, has lauded the Chinese investors for their construction of the East Africa Commercial and Logistics Centre (EACLC) in Dar es Salaam. During his inspection of the project, which is being built in the Ubungo area at a cost of 195 billion Tanzanian shillings, he stated that this is a clear indication of the government's success in attracting foreign investors to the country. Once completed, the commercial complex will have 2,600 shops and generate 15,000 direct jobs and over 50,000 indirect ones, stimulating business growth and increasing government revenue through tax and levies. The Prime Minister highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the government to create a conducive environment for business and investments, including the establishment of a one-stop center at the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) and the reduction of a total of 232 taxes and levies. He further revealed that these efforts have led to the registration of 537 projects worth 7.2 billion US dollars (about 16.9 trillion Tanzanian shillings) at TIC, set to create 92,770 jobs. The Premier expressed his appreciation to the investors for executing the project and assured them of the government's full support to ensure mutual benefits. The Director General of EACLC, Dr. Cathy Wang, disclosed that upon completion and becoming operational, the complex will generate a total annual income of 500 million US dollars (about 1.2 trillion Tanzanian shillings), thereby increasing the economic growth of Tanzania. She added that the project's success will boost foreign investor confidence and attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDIs) to contribute to industrial transformation. Dr. Wang also mentioned that the project will help transform Tanzania's economy into a middle-industrial economy by 2025 and foster sustainable economic growth. The main structure of the complex is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with the entire project set for completion in June 2024. The EACLC aims to facilitate and enhance economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between Tanzanian and Chinese enterprises by providing a two-way platform service for members of both countries.
