Uber and Tigo Tanzania Forge Partnership to Introduce Cash Back Incentives for Drivers and Riders

Ride-hailing giant Uber has joined forces with Tigo Tanzania in a year-long partnership aimed at introducing a series of cash-back initiatives for drivers and riders who utilize the Uber app.

As part of this collaboration, drivers operating on the Uber platform will have the option to register as Lipa 'Kwa Simu' merchants with Tigo Pesa, enabling them to collect funds seamlessly. Through various Tigo Pesa agents, drivers will have the opportunity to cash out from their Lipa Kwa Simu merchant accounts without incurring any charges, as long as the amount does not exceed 500,000/- per day.

In addition to these benefits for drivers, riders who choose to pay for their trips using Tigo Pesa's Lipa Kwa Simu service will receive a 10% cashback in their Tigo Pesa wallets. This offer comes in addition to any other periodic promotions that Uber may introduce through its app.

Imran Manji, Uber's Head of East Africa, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the advantages it brings for both riders and drivers. He emphasized the cost-saving benefits for riders and the potential for drivers to increase their earnings. Manji also emphasized the importance of collaboration in providing a seamless and convenient payment solution within the Uber platform.

Angelica Pesha, Chief Officer at Tigo Pesa, underlined the efficiency of the payment collection solution now available to Uber drivers. She emphasized that this collaboration ensures customers have a secure and reliable method to pay for their journeys, ensuring a safe and convenient experience from start to finish.

The partnership between Uber and Tigo Tanzania aims to enhance the overall experience for both drivers and riders, promoting convenience, financial incentives, and secure payment methods within the ride-hailing industry.
